Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that it raised a record US$207,446 for this year’s Generous Associates Campaign, an effort to generate financial support for the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia. Latham is the first firm to surpass US$200,000 in the history of the campaign and bested our 2017 record donation by more than US$20,000. Notably, associate giving was up nearly 50% from last year, making up half of Latham’s total increase. The annual two-month summer campaign raised a total of US$2.15M to support the operations of Legal Aid – a US$350,000 increase over the amount raised in 2017 –  blowing by the campaign’s goal of $2M. Additionally, Latham donated US$100,000 to Legal Aid’s Annual Servant of Justice Awards Dinner, bringing the firm’s total 2018 donation to Legal Aid to US$307,446.

Latham associates Amy Rigdon, Janna Chesno, Ryan Clore, Nicole Fritz, Nikhil Kumar, Kimberly Leefatt, Arianna Medina, Natalie Hardwick Rao, Cooper Rekrut, Timilin Sanders, Gaston Soler, Peter Viola, David Zucker, and Ryan Zumwalt led the firm’s efforts to reach its goal. The office's tremendous fundraising efforts were achieved through broad participation of a majority of the firm's attorneys and many staff.

Legal Aid President and Latham partner David Dantzic said, “It’s very heartening to see such a tremendous fundraising effort each year amongst D.C. law firms for Legal Aid during this Campaign. This year’s results are nothing short of extraordinary and I could not be more proud of Latham and the broader legal community for coming together to contribute to this very worthy cause.”

This fundraising milestone resonates strongly with Latham, whose associates helped initiate the Generous Associates Campaign more than 25 years ago. The Campaign is a fundraising drive run by associates at Washington, D.C. law firms each summer. Although contributors to the campaign include associates, partners, non-lawyers, and the firms themselves, it is a campaign that allows the true generosity of the associates in our legal community to come through in spectacular fashion.

Last year’s record-breaking Generous Associates Campaign raised approximately 30% of Legal Aid’s budget. The critical funds raised through this campaign allow Legal Aid to continue to provide free legal services to the neediest members of the D.C. community in the areas of domestic violence/family, housing, public benefits, immigration and consumer law.
