Latham & Watkins Advises Underwriters in Debut Global Debt Offering by Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

Cross-border team counsels underwriters for multilateral development bank's inaugural global issuance

May 17, 2019

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has completed its inaugural global issuance of AAA-rated 2.25% notes registered with the SEC under Schedule B, which are expected to be listed on the London Stock Exchange’s regulated market.

AIIB is a multilateral development bank established by international treaty and headquartered in Beijing, with over US$100 billion in authorized capital stock and a mission to foster sustainable economic development in Asia. The five-year bond raised US$2.5 billion and will drive AIIB’s priorities of investing in sustainable infrastructure, developing cross-border connectivity, and promoting Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investing in emerging Asia. The issuance of this bond is the latest milestone for AIIB, now in its fourth year of operations.

Latham & Watkins represented the underwriters in the offering with a capital markets team led by Moscow partner David Stewart and Washington, D.C. partner Paul Dudek, with London associates Rachel McCaslin, Rosie Wu, and Jessie Stefanik.
