Washington, D.C. … Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Jonathan Su will rejoin the firm's Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the Litigation Department and as a member of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Group. Su returns to Latham from the White House Counsel’s Office, where he served most recently as Special Counsel to President Barack Obama. Prior to joining the White House, Su was an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Maryland from late 2006 - early 2012, and he was an associate at Latham from 2004-2006.

At the White House, Su advised senior White House and Executive Branch officials on a wide range of matters, including Congressional investigations, risk management, nominations and personnel issues, litigation matters involving the White House, and various matters relating to the Department of Justice.

As an Assistant United States Attorney, Su conducted twelve jury trials to verdict. Among his first-chair matters included securing trial convictions and guilty pleas of the leaders of a $78 million Ponzi scheme, as well as leading the Maryland portion of a joint Maryland / District of Columbia prosecution of a $49 million embezzlement from the District of Columbia government. Su also handled and argued several matters in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In 2010, Su received the United States Attorney’s Award for Excellence in the Prosecution of Fraud.

“I’m pleased to welcome Jonathan back to our Washington, D.C. office. He is an incredible talent who has distinguished himself in each role in which he has served. He is a skilled first-chair trial lawyer and thoughtful advisor. These are qualities that I’m certain will benefit clients here in Washington and globally as they face complex legal challenges,” said Alice Fisher, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Washington, D.C.

Doug Greenburg, Vice-Chair of the firm’s Global Litigation Department and a member of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Group in Washington, D.C. added: “Jonathan has great experience as a lead lawyer in complex investigations and trials. He rejoins our strong group of leading white collar lawyers and enhances our ability to handle the most challenging law enforcement and regulatory issues. Jonathan is an excellent addition to not only the Washington, D.C. office but also the global team.”

“It was a privilege to work with talented and dedicated colleagues at the White House and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland. I am thrilled to rejoin my friends in Latham’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Group, and am looking forward to working with the firm's clients as they navigate the many legal risks and challenges that face corporations operating in a global economy.”

Su is the second former federal prosecutor to join the firm’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Group this year. In February, Michael K. Fee joined the firm’s Boston office. Fee has more than 25 years of litigation experience across the full complement of white collar criminal matters for clients in healthcare and in a range of other industries.

Su is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the Georgetown University Law Center. After graduation, he clerked for the Hon. Julian Abele Cook, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and for the Hon. Ronald M. Gould of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
