Washington, D.C. Partner Named to “Enforcement 40” List

Securities Docket has named Washington, D.C. partner Bill Baker to its 2017 “Enforcement 40” list of the “40 best and brightest securities enforcement defense lawyers in the business.” The list honors the top practitioners who “have been key players—both in the public eye and behind-the-scenes—in the most significant SEC enforcement matters over the past few decades.” Baker also appeared on the inaugural list in 2013, the last time the “Enforcement 40” was compiled.

Baker’s practice includes a broad range of business regulatory and corporate governance matters, including representing corporations, auditing and other professional firms, investment banks and other financial institutions in SEC and other regulatory enforcement proceedings. In addition, Baker conducts internal investigations on behalf of management and boards of directors. He regularly counsels clients on SEC reporting, disclosure, compliance and corporate governance requirements.

Prior to joining Latham, Baker served as Associate Director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, where he led numerous high-profile investigations that resulted in several landmark enforcement actions. While at the SEC, he received the Stanley Sporkin Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the enforcement program, and the Law and Policy Award.
