Chicago Office Sponsors Writing Challenge Addressing Youth Violence

Middle school students participate in Do the Write Thing Challenge.

May 27, 2016

Latham & Watkins’ Chicago office proudly sponsored the 18th annual Do the Write Thing Challenge, which empowers middle schools students across Chicago to examine the impact of youth violence on their lives. Through classroom discussions and writing original essays, poems or short stories, students communicate what they have seen to be the causes of youth violence and propose solutions to help decrease violence in their communities.

More than 1,000 6th, 7th and 8th grade students submitted their writings to the 2016 Chicago Do the Write Thing Challenge, and the top 100 finalists were honored at an awards ceremony in May. Two student finalists also were selected to travel with their families and teachers to Washington, D.C. in July to represent Chicago as ambassadors at the Do the Write Thing National Recognition Week.

The firm is proud to sponsor this important initiative and congratulates all of the students, families and educators who participate in the Do the Write Thing Challenge.
