Latham's Chicago office proudly sponsored the 19th annual Do the Write Thing Challenge, which empowers middle school students across Chicago to examine the impact of youth violence on their lives. More than 1,400 Chicago middle school students participated in the 2017 challenge by writing original essays, poems or short stories that examine what they have seen to be the causes of youth violence and propose solutions to help decrease violence in their communities. Latham partner Robin Hulshizer and associate Meghan Hansen serve as co-chairs of the Do the Write Thing Chicago board, and many Chicago office personnel serve as board members and volunteers.

The top 100 student finalists were honored at an awards ceremony at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the top two finalists will travel with their families and teachers in July to Washington, D.C. to serve as the Chicago ambassadors at the Do the Write Thing National Recognition Week.
