New York … Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Stephen P. Wink has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the Corporate Department. Wink advises a wide range of market players including investment banks, hedge funds, private equity firms, proprietary trading firms and other financial institutions on broker-dealer registration, market regulation, and compliance and enforcement matters.
Wink has in-depth knowledge and broad experience advising on the overlapping patchwork of regulations covering the financial markets, including the laws and rules under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and the rules of FINRA and other self-regulatory organizations. Wink’s extensive expertise is founded on many years working in the industry, including a decade as Executive Managing Director, General Counsel and Secretary of First Albany Companies, Inc., an investment bank and capital markets firm.
In addition to strengthening the firm’s corporate practice, Wink’s industry knowledge will support the firm’s securities litigation and SEC enforcement practices representing investment banks and other financial institutions in litigation, compliance and regulatory matters.
Jimmy Brandt, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in New York, said: “Steve is among a small group of preeminent broker-dealer lawyers in the US with many years of experience advising a wide range of financial institutions on sophisticated regulatory matters. His comprehensive knowledge of the myriad statutes and regulations, technical proficiency and business judgment has earned him a stellar reputation within the financial community. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
Kirk Davenport, Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Capital Markets Practice Group, said: “Adding Steve’s expertise and knowledge to the group strengthens our broker-dealer practice, further establishing our credentials in this increasingly important area. The combination of Dana Fleischman, Ellen Creede and Steve, together with our leading capital markets, derivatives, banking, and securities litigation practices, makes for a team of exceptional depth and breadth.”
“Latham & Watkins offers a compelling platform from which to further build my practice. I am delighted to join this team of great people and look forward to contributing to the growth of the financial institutions advisory practice both in the US and globally. The team’s deep knowledge of the industry and regulations and its commercially astute counsel position it among the leading firms in this area, with the broad capability to respond to the most complex market regulatory matters,” said Wink.
Wink’s arrival follows Dana Fleischman and Ellen Creede joining the firm earlier this year. Fleischman is an experienced broker-dealer partner, whose practice includes advising heavily regulated financial institutions on a broad array of matters involving complex financial products and issues relating to broker-dealer regulation, registration and compliance. Creede’s practice encompasses broker-dealer and investment advisory regulation, stock exchange listing and corporate governance requirements and state securities laws compliance.
Wink joins the firm from Cahill/Wink LLP where he was a managing partner. He received his JD degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1991 and his BA from SUNY Empire State College 1983. He served as a law clerk for Judge George E. MacKinnon of the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit from 1991 to 1992.
