The In-House Community, which publishes Asian-mena Counsel magazine, has honored Latham & Watkins for influential legal work in Asia. The organization recognized the firm as International Deal Firm of the Year 2018, noting Latham’s role in several capital markets, finance, and M&A deals that Asian-mena Counsel had identified as being among the most innovative and noteworthy in 2018.
The organization also recognized Sungjin Kang, a project finance partner in Latham’s Seoul office, as Commended External Counsel of the Year for South Korea. Kang focuses his practice on the representation of Korean lenders and sponsors in complex project financings in power, oil and gas, and other infrastructure projects around the world. Seoul Office Managing Partner Joseph Bevash commented, “Sungjin is truly unique in the market. With his deep project finance experience and full Korean and English fluency, Sungjin is a powerful force in Seoul, guiding key clients through their most complex cross-jurisdictional financings. This recognition is a real testament to the value that our clients see in his service.”
The In-House Community’s annual awards recognize the “dedication, innovation, efficiency and value-add, integration, encouragement and improvement, and corporate social responsibility” of lawyers and firms. The organization’s panel of independent judges reviewed submissions from in-house counsel across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
