Brussels … Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Sven Völcker will join the firm’s Brussels office as a partner in the Litigation Department. Völcker’s broad practice encompasses counseling on EU antitrust rules, merger clearance, cartel and other behavioural cases.
Völcker’s stature as one of the leading merger control practitioners in Brussels reflects 17 years of practice at the highest levels. He has advised on a number of major, cross-border M&A matters and multi-jurisdictional cartel and abuse of dominance cases. He has particularly deep experience in a range of industries, including aviation, high technology, software and financial services. He is also an experienced litigator before the EU Courts in Luxembourg.
“We are excited to be adding a partner with Sven’s reputation, expertise and business acumen to the practice. He has an excellent track record advising major industrials and multinational businesses on complex matters and his expertise strongly complements our practice,” said Jean Paul Poitras, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Brussels.
Last week, Latham & Watkins announced that partner Lars Kjølbye will be joining the Brussels office. Kjølbye is a leader in complex conduct cases, and in particular energy and high technology antitrust, and brings to Latham deep EC credentials, previously serving in a variety of key roles at DG-Competition. Völcker and Kjølbye are leaders in the field and their joining Latham represents a significant expansion of the firm’s European practice and deepening of its market-leading global capabilities.
Michael Egge, Global Co-Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Antitrust & Competition Practice, added: “Sven and Lars are going to enjoy wonderful success serving Latham clients. They are tremendous practice-builders, formidable practitioners and great team players. We could not be more delighted. The addition of these experienced partners to our European and global practice is a testament to our commitment to build a uniquely qualified, highly skilled team that can handle a wide range of complex, high-stakes assignments for our clients.”
“Sven has impeccable credentials, and like Lars he brings a combination of intellectual firepower and experience counseling on high stakes matters,” said Javier Ruiz Calzado, Vice Chair of Latham’s Global Litigation Department.
“Latham & Watkins has developed a top-tier practice in every facet of EU competition law. Latham is among the elite firms globally and the practice is distinguished by its size, reputation and quality. I am excited to be joining the team of talented lawyers and look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued growth,” said Völcker.
Völcker received his doctorate degree in jurisprudence, magna cum laude, from Bonn University in 1994 and an LLM from Harvard in 1996. He was recently appointed as an Honorary Professor at Göttingen University.
