Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Jonathan Castelan has joined the firm’s Houston office as a partner in the Corporate Department and member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. Castelan represents private equity firms and energy companies in acquisitions, divestitures and strategic joint ventures involving midstream assets.

Castelan complements his transactional work with advice on midstream operating agreements. His areas of focus include oil and gas gathering and processing agreements, supply and offtake agreements, transportation agreements, hydrocarbon purchase agreements and pipeline interconnect agreements. Castelan also advises clients with respect to engineering, procurement and construction arrangements.

“We are delighted to welcome Jonathan, an experienced M&A practitioner with critical experience in core operational agreements, to our team,” said Tim Fenn, Houston Office Managing Partner. “His strong relationships with private equity firms and energy companies will further expand our ability to serve the oil and gas industry.”

Ryan Maierson, Chair of the Corporate Department in Houston, added: “Jonathan’s excellent track record in complex energy transactions complements our M&A platform. In particular, he brings significant experience in infrastructure projects and offshore investments, which are areas of growing interest among our clients. His arrival demonstrates our continued commitment to strengthening our M&A and Private Equity Practices, both in Houston and around the world.”

“Latham’s Oil & Gas Industry Group is known for bringing exceptional value to clients by combining a global platform with expansive capabilities throughout the entire energy value chain,” said Castelan. “I look forward to growing my practice, enhancing my ability to serve clients, and contributing to the continued success of this dynamic team.”

Castelan is the second partner to join Latham’s Houston office in 2019. The firm announced on January 23, 2019 the arrival of finance partner Trevor Wommack from Vinson & Elkins LLP.

Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Castelan was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Houston. He received his JD from the University of Texas Law School and his BA from Southern Methodist University.
