Latham & Watkins Advises Duolingo on US$30 million Series F Funding

December 5, 2019
A California-based corporate team advises on the funding which brings the company's valuation to US$1.5 billion.

Duolingo has reached a US$1.5 billion valuation after closing a US$30 million Series F funding round from CapitalG, Alphabet's growth equity investment fund and an existing investor in the company. This brings Duolingo's total funding to US$138 million, and makes it Pittsburgh's first tech startup to achieve a valuation of more than US$1 billion. The new capital will be used for continued investment into the research and development of its products, as well as to accelerate the growth and expansion of the Duolingo team.

Latham & Watkins LLP represents Duolingo in the funding round with a corporate team led by Silicon Valley partner Patrick Pohlen with Silicon Valley associate Alexander White and Century City associate Brad Burton. Advice was also provided on antitrust matters by San Francisco partner Joshua Holian with Washington, D.C. counsel Patrick English.
