    Profile

    John Karantonis is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Corporate Department. He is also a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, and Australia Practices.

    Mr. Karantonis represents private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies, as well as public and private companies, in mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. He also advises private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies on a broad range of general corporate, securities laws, and corporate governance matters.

    Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Karantonis worked in the New York office of another leading international law firm. He was also a mergers and acquisitions associate in a top tier Australian law firm based in Sydney, Australia.

    Mr. Karantonis graduated 12th in his class at The University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia and was listed in the Dean’s List of Excellence in Academic Performance. Mr. Karantonis co-authored a paper with Professor David Carmichael of UNSW on pricing methodologies for real options analysis in the Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction. In addition, he was co-coach of the teams representing UNSW at the 22nd and 23rd editions of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria.

    Mr. Karantonis’ experience includes advising:

    • AES in the sale of a minority stake in its Southland energy projects to Ullico Infrastructure Fund
    • Aterian Investment Partners in the acquisition of Vander-bend Manufacturing, Inc., a leading developer, manufacturer, and assembler of precision products*
    • B&G Crane Service LLC, one of the largest providers of crane rental and related lift solutions, in its sale to Maxim Crane Works, L.P. (winner of the 2019 Industrials Deal of the Year in the USA M&A Atlas Awards)*
    • Blackstone Energy Partners in the US$7 billion sale of its approximately 42% stake in Cheniere Energy Partners, L.P., the largest liquefied natural gas export terminal in the US, to Brookfield Infrastructure and funds managed by Blackstone Infrastructure Partners
    • ContourGlobal in its US$837 million acquisition of a portfolio of contract operating power plants in the US and Trinidad and Tobago
    • Goldman Sachs (Merchant Banking Division) in the acquisition of Restaurant Technologies, Inc., the largest national provider of automated cooking oil solutions*
    • Goldman Sachs (Merchant Banking Division) in the sale of a majority of its interests in ProQuest LLC, a global leader in educational technology, to Atairos Group, Inc.*
    • HPS Investment Partners and BC Partners in their investment in Broadway Technology
    • Irving Place Capital in the sale of Caribbean Financial Group Holdings, L.P., a leading consumer finance company in the Caribbean and Panama, to a consortium led by BayBoston Managers LLC*
    • Kainos Capital in the acquisition of Olde Thompson Inc., a private label and branded spices and seasonings manufacturer*
    • KIK Custom Products, Inc. in the acquisition of NC Brands L.P., a leading provider of specialty chemicals for recreational pools and spas in North America*
    • KIK Custom Products, Inc. in the sale of KIK’s Personal Care business, a manufacturer of household and personal care products, to Voyant Beauty*
    • OMERS Private Equity in the acquisition of Paradigm Management Services, LLC, a market leading provider of complex and catastrophic medical management*
