Associate Lauded for Pro Bono Work

June 22, 2022
Cody Kermanian commended for dedication and commitment to Human Rights First.

Human Rights First, an independent advocacy and action organization focused on human rights and the rule of law, recognized Los Angeles associate Cody Kermanian with a Pro Bono Star Award, given to individuals who demonstrate “dedication and commitment to pro bono representation through Human Rights First.”

In early 2019, a Latham team led by Cody began representing a client who experienced relentless violence, threats against his life, and abuse and harassment in his home country of Honduras due to his sexual orientation. The team prepared the client’s asylum application, supporting declaration, supplemental evidence, and country conditions materials, and coordinated with multiple experts on supporting declarations and testimony preparation for the client’s individual hearing. The team also spent several days preparing the client for his hearing and represented the client before the Immigration Court. “Without this tireless preparation and . . . representation during his two-day individual hearing, [the client] would not have successfully obtained asylum,” said Human Rights First.
