Human Rights First Recognizes Firm for Pro Bono Asylum Matters
Human Rights First honored Latham with its 2022 Marvin E. Frankel Award, which recognizes law firms that have “done outstanding work on behalf of refugees” and are exceptional contributors to pro bono asylum matters. The award is named in memory of Judge Marvin E. Frankel, one of the founders of Human Rights First who developed its nationally recognized pro bono program for asylum seekers.
In 2022, we represented refugees in a wide range of cases across 14 of our offices, including asylum proceedings, family reunification petitions, and green card applications. Over the summer, we assisted 109 at-risk Afghan clients to apply for US permanent residence, contributing 7,200 pro bono hours to Human Rights First in ten weeks.
“We are honored by this award from Human Rights First,” said Laura Atkinson-Hope, Deputy Public Service Counsel (US). “Over the last two decades, we have partnered with Human Rights First on matters that champion the rights of asylees in the United States. We’re grateful for this recognition, and proud to collaborate with Human Rights First.”
