London Litigation Partner Elected to General Council of the Bar

Stuart Alford QC tops the poll to represent employed barristers on the Council.

Stuart Alford QC, partner in Latham & Watkins' London Litigation and Trial Department, has been elected to the General Council of the Bar as of January 2021, for a three-year term.

The General Council of the Bar, also known as the Bar Council, is the governing body for the 16,500 barristers in England and Wales. Its role is to represent the barrister’s profession and to promote the rule of law more generally. It also regulates conduct issues and complaints against barristers, brought by clients, the public, or courts. The Council promotes:

  • Fair access to justice for all
  • The highest standards of ethics, equality and diversity across the profession, and
  • The development of business opportunities for barristers at home and abroad.

In addition to his role on the main Council, Stuart will also work on a number of representative committees, promoting and overseeing the work of the Bar both in the UK and overseas.
