Middle East Team Advises on Two Innovative Deals of the Year

Latham & Watkins advised on more than 10 deals shortlisted as Deal of the Year candidates in numerous categories including M&A, Debt and Equity-Linked, Equity and Project Finance in IFLR’s 2014 Middle East 2014 awards. The firm advised on two award-winning deals: 

M&A Deal of the Year: Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank’s acquisition of Barclays’ UAE retail banking assets 

  • Latham advised ADIB as the first Islamic bank in the UAE to acquire conventional banking assets which were converted to Shari’ah-compliant financial products.

Project Finance Deal of the Year: Az-Zour North Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) 

  • Latham advised the project sponsors, GDF Suez International Power and Sumitomo Corporation and Al Sagar, in the US$1.4 billion financing of Az-Zour North 1 power and water project, the first IWPP under Kuwait’s new PPP laws.
