Latham & Watkins has earned recognition as Law Firm of the Year at Environmental Finance’s 2019 Green, Social and Sustainability Bond Awards. The annual award program honors organizations that innovate and contribute to the successful development of the sustainable finance market. An independent panel of 24 sustainable finance investors selected this year’s winners, which included a diverse range of companies, financial institutions, and government entities from around the world.
Environmental Finance’s coverage highlighted several milestone global transactions that Latham handled in 2018. For example, the magazine noted Latham’s representation of the World Bank as guarantor on the first-ever sovereign blue bond issued by the Republic of Seychelles — an “innovative issue designed to support the development of sustainable marine and fisheries projects.” Environmental Finance also cited Latham’s representation of the managers in connection with the first offering and issuance of sustainability bonds by a Thai and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) bank.
Latham & Watkins was among the top legal advisors to both issuers and underwriters on green, social, and sustainability bonds during 2018. In particular, the firm combines broad capital markets and environmental law capabilities to navigate the most complex issues in the evolving sustainable finance market.
