Latham partners Joe Calabrese, Ken Deutsch, Rick Offsay, and Marvin Putnam have been named 2021 Power Lawyers by The Hollywood Reporter in the entertainment industry publication’s 15th annual review of attorneys advising on high-profile deals and disputes.
Special recognition was made for Calabrese, Global Chair of the firm’s Entertainment, Sports & Media (ESM) Practice, for being inducted to The Hollywood Reporter’s Legal Legends, a title that honors “lawyers whose career achievements and contributions to the entertainment industry are extraordinary.”
Calabrese was celebrated for a 40-year career “representing everyone from the International Olympic Committee to Legendary Pictures” and summed up his priorities saying, “I’m a big protector of independent content creators.”
Calabrese, Deutsch, and Putnam have been named multiple times to the annual Power Lawyers list. Calabrese, Deutsch, and Offsay are transactional partners and Putnam is a litigation and trial partner in Latham’s global Entertainment, Sports & Media (ESM) Practice.
Deutsch was honored for his role connecting producers with capital to bankroll films, “like last year’s co-financing and distribution agreement between New Republic and Paramount Pictures for a 10-film deal including Mission: Impossible 7 and Top Gun: Maverick.”
Offsay was highlighted for connecting studios together to work on projects, including “Warner Bros.’ 10-year home-entertainment joint venture with Universal, and the MGM-Universal output deal.
Putnam, who leads the national litigation team in Latham’s Entertainment, Sports & Media industry group, was cited for his roles representing major entertainment organizations, like the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in an antitrust dispute and the Association of Talent Agents in a dispute over packaging fees with the Writer’s Guild of America.
