Latham & Watkins wins strong client praise across numerous practices in the Chambers UK 2009 guide. Of Latham's banking and finance practice, Chambers noted: "'The quality is fantastic,' say clients," with the guide adding: "Sources enjoy [the banking litigation practice's] global reach, remarking that 'it is seamlessly integrated with the European offices.'" Latham's London office is called "an increasingly significant player" in debt and equity capital markets. The firm is also popular with clients because it fields small teams, which guarantees lots of partner involvement." Similarly, the investment funds group is praised, with Chambers noting: "Client care and attention differentiate this firm from others in the market." The project finance practice "'is developing a terrific energy finance practice,' say sources, who highlight the team’s 'extremely proactive approach towards clients'." Chambers ranked Latham's outsourcing and IT practices in Tier 1 and Tier 2 respectively, with the guide describing the group as "[h]igh-quality," "'giving great commercial advice'," and "'[p]robably the best firm for financial services outsourcing'."
Client feedback calls the tax practice "'a strong and impressive team' with high-calibre partners" and the guide describes the employment practice as "'[s]trong, helpful and able to get right to the heart of transactional matters.'" Chambers ranks the firm's public international law practice in Tier 1 and calls it "a high-level player in the sector," noting that the group is "[d]istinguished by the breadth of its knowledge." Latham's international arbitration practice earns recognition, with the guide noting: "The proliferation of investment treaty arbitrations has contributed to another boisterous year for this team." Latham's competition group is praised for its "expertise in EU and US cartel matters" and "its competition litigation before the European courts," with client feedback confirming: "'Everyone here gives really pragmatic advice and takes pride in knowing about the client’s business.'" Latham's restructuring team is commended, with the guide noting "the group is said to punch above its weight."
