Amaryllis Bernitsa is an associate in the Litigation & Trial Department of the London office of Latham & Watkins. She is also a member of the International Arbitration and Complex Commercial Litigation Practices.

Ms. Bernitsa has worked on cases before arbitral tribunals, the English High Court, and the English Court of Appeal. She also advises clients on various aspects of international trade sanctions and export controls.

Ms. Bernitsa also regularly does pro bono work, including projects for Lawyers Without Borders and the Centre for Women’s Justice.

Ms. Bernitsa trained in the firm’s London office, gaining experience in litigation and arbitration, as well as project finance, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity matters.


Ms. Bernitsa's experience includes advising:

  • The investor in an ICSID arbitration related to the expropriation of a major mining group in the Republic of Turkey
  • A UK company and its director in claims in the English High Court against its parent company in the context of a US$5-6 billion ICSID claim
  • A company registered in Mauritius, in connection with an ICC mediation relating to a breach of contract
  • Thomas Cook Group and New Look in connection with schemes of arrangement and recapitalization
  • A high net worth individual in relation to defending claims of breach of contract in the art sector
  • Renesas Group’s defense to a follow-on damages claim for c. £400 million in connection with the European Commission’s Smart Card Chips cartel decision
  • A syndicate of banks in an LCIA arbitration enforcing equity support and completion guarantees
  • Global clients on EU and UK sanctions issues and export controls, including analyzing disclosures relating to international sanctions for major M&A deals, investigating allegations of potential breaches of trade sanctions, and negotiating contractual provisions relating to trade sanctions for a variety of stakeholders
