Greg Bonné is an associate in the Litigation Department of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Global Antitrust and Competition Practice in London. Mr. Bonné advises clients on a range of antitrust and competition matters, and he has considerable experience in merger control matters.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Bonné worked as an assistant director of mergers at the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). During this period, Mr. Bonné coordinated over 100 Phase I merger investigations for the CMA and was an active member of the Mergers Intelligence Committee. Mr. Bonné also acted as a project director, and he led a Phase 2 investigation that resulted in the CMA’s first prohibition of a merger. In addition to merger control work at the CMA, Mr. Bonné has worked on cartel investigations, UK market investigations, judicial review proceedings before the Competition Appeal Tribunal, and on price control appeals.

Prior to his time at the CMA, Mr. Bonné worked as a lawyer at the UK Competition Commission, before which he was in private practice at a global law firm, in London and Brussels, practicing EU and competition law.

Experience

Acting as the lead associate, recent matters include advising:

  • Live Nation on its acquisition of events promoter MCD, which was cleared following a Phase 2 CMA investigation
  • A leading energy provider on the sale of its LNG assets, which was cleared following a Phase 1 European Commission investigation
  • iZettle in relation to its sale to Paypal Holdings, Inc, which was cleared following a Phase 2 CMA investigation
  • Rowan on its merger with Ensco, which was cleared following a Phase 1 CMA investigation
  • La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) on its acquisition of FNZ and follow-on acquisition of ebase, which was cleared in Germany and Austria following Phase 1 investigations
  • An international airline in relation to an ongoing CMA antitrust investigation

Other significant matters include advising:

  • CBS on a TV channel joint venture with Liberty Group which triggered merger filings in Austria Germany and Poland*
  • Kellogg’s Company on its acquisition of the ‘Pringles’ snacks business for US$2.7 billion and which triggered merger filings at the EU level, in the USA, Turkey, South Korea, and Ukraine*
  • Kerry Group on its acquisition of Cargill Flavors Systems for US$230 million and which triggered merger filings in Ireland, the USA, and Brazil*
  • Peabody Energy Corporation on its A$5 billion acquisition of Macarthur Coal Limited and which triggered merger filings in Brazil, Korea, Japan, and China*
