Robert G. Goldman

Retired Partner

Bob Goldman retired from the partnership in June 2012; he was a member of the firm's Tax Department, which represents a variety of entities in the formation, ongoing operations and the winding up of partnerships and limited liability companies, including several Fortune 500 companies, corporations, developers and other businesses. He not only addressed the tax aspects of partnerships and limited liability companies, but also structured the entire business arrangement and assumed primary responsibility for drafting the underlying documentation. In that regard, Mr. Goldman spent a significant amount of time working with developers and investors of renewable energy projects (including wind farms, biomass and geothermal plants and solar projects). The projects generated significant tax benefits for the investors in the form of production tax credits or investment tax credits and accelerated depreciation.

In addition, Mr. Goldman also has experience in other transactional and ongoing tax planning. He regularly gave advice to underwriters and corporations (including S corporations). Mr. Goldman has significant experience in business acquisitions, securitization transactions, mergers and troubled company restructurings.

Mr. Goldman also led the firm's tax practice for the Public Finance Group. He represented a variety of entities in public financing, including issuers, investment bankers, real estate developers, landowner associations, public utilities, hospitals, manufacturing concerns, banks, universities and other tax-exempt entities. Mr. Goldman assisted in structuring various tax-exempt offerings and the impact of a sale on currently outstanding tax-exempt bonds.

Prior to attending law school, he practiced as an accountant in the tax department of Arthur Young and Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the time of his retirement, he was an Illinois certified public accountant and a member of the American Bar Association.
