Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce the expansion of its Italian law capability with the addition of a strong and experienced litigation team who bring extensive experience in commercial litigation and arbitration matters, with a particular focus on company law matters, M&A and joint venture disputes, corporate insolvency, commercial disputes and directors’ liability.
The group - which includes Cesare Degli Occhi, Antonio Distefano and Angela Succi - has worked together over many years, with a track record defending large corporates and financial institutions, and advising them on a number of major commercial disputes in Italy. They have particular experience advising clients in a variety of technical and complicated business sectors such as financial services, private equity and investment management, energy, food and beverage, fashion, and retail distribution. Degli Occhi is a senior litigator with more than 25 years of experience, who has earned a reputation among the Italian litigation bar for his business judgement, technical knowledge and courtroom experience.
Fabio Coppola, Office Managing Partner of the Italian offices, said: “We are excited to add this strong litigation capability to our Italian law practice. The team has broad experience defending and advising investment banks, commercial banks, private equity funds and Italian corporates on a wide range of high stakes commercial litigation matters. Their depth of experience on compliance and enforcement issues and litigation matters complements our corporate and finance transactional practice, and our existing antitrust and administrative litigation capabilities.”
“Over the years, we have been carefully building our European litigation capability, which now spans eight offices across Europe. The arrival of this talented group of lawyers will be another boost to the growth of the practice and an important milestone in the strategic expansion of our litigation and arbitration resources. Cesare is one of Italy’s pre-eminent litigators and the group’s experience is synergistic with our global litigation practice,” added John Hull, Vice Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Global Litigation Department.
The group’s arrival will also add further depth to the firm’s regulatory practice, which includes counsel Daniela Frascella who joined the firm in 2010. Frascella is an administrative law specialist, who has broad experience advising companies and financial institutions on development and permitting processes as well as offering counsel on administrative law and legal compliance issues and providing legal diligence and opinion on public law matters.
“Latham & Watkins has built great momentum in Italy and has one of the most illustrious corporate and finance practices in the market. Latham’s stature as a leader in Europe and globally in complex litigation matters - in particular in areas like banking, antitrust and competition, white collar, government enforcement, investigations and compliance, and intellectual property - is very attractive to us to further grow and enhance our practice,” said Degli Occhi.
