Latham recognizes its duty to help ensure that the doors of justice are open to all, regardless of income, and that the practice of law includes the unique ability and responsibility to advocate for equal justice and provide needed representation to persons of limited means.
Latham's Pro Bono Program
Latham’s lawyers and professional staff volunteer thousands of hours to help those who might otherwise be denied access to the legal system.
As a signatory to the Law Firm Pro Bono ChallengeTM, Latham has committed to provide, at minimum, the equivalent of 60 hours per US lawyer per year in pro bono legal services. The firm has surpassed this goal every year since making the commitment.
In 2012, with more than 2,000 lawyers, paralegals, summer associates, trainees and professional staff in our offices across 14 countries participating in our program, Latham provided more than 176,000 hours of free legal services valued at approximately US$91 million. Since 2000, Latham has provided more than US$851 million in free legal services to the disadvantaged and the nonprofit sector, totaling more than 2.2 million pro bono hours.
Latham applies the same quality standards to its commercial and pro bono work; the firm also treats associate pro bono hours the same as commercial billable hours for purposes of evaluation and bonuses. There is no cap on pro bono hours.
