Sanctuary for Families Recognizes Latham With Above & Beyond Award

Each year, Sanctuary for Families staff and Pro Bono Council members nominate pro bono teams that have gone “above and beyond” in their pro bono work on behalf of victims of gender-based violence.

This year, a group of lawyers in our New York office — including partners Michèle Penzer, George Davis, and Brittany Ruiz, and associates Prudence Ng, Jaclyn Newman, Abhinaya Swaminathan, Matt Carmody, Layan Charara, and Jacob Watts — was honored with an Above & Beyond Award. This award recognizes our lawyers’ work developing an asylum pro se clinic alongside Sanctuary for Families. Together, they advised clients who had experienced LGBTQ+-based persecution in their home countries.

Since 1984, Sanctuary for Families has served clients who have been impacted by domestic violence, sex trafficking, and related forms of gender violence. Latham is proud to have a longstanding partnership with Sanctuary for Families, with lawyers in our New York office having donated thousands of hours in free legal services over the past several years.
