A Latham & Watkins team advised on the sale of AEI’s Latin American energy infrastructure assets, in a deal described by Latin Finance as “one of last year’s most complex” and which Euromoney called “a unique deal” in their respective “Deals of the Year” awards. The team led by San Diego partner Sony Ben-Moshe and counsel Michael Sullivan advised Sempra Energy on its acquisition of a 50% stake in Chile’s Chilquinta Energie and a 38% stake in Peru’s Luz Del Sur for $875 million. Euromoney said: “As well as being an example of a complex cross-border transaction in a regulation-heavy industry it shows the shifting landscape of M&A within Latin America, with local players becoming more active and aggressive in purchasing companies throughout the region.”
