Latham & Watkins’ restructuring practice was recognized in the 2010 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers awards for the firm’s work on the high profile debt restructuring of Schoeller Arca Systems group and its involvement in the ground-breaking restructuring of German car parts manufacturer Honsel AG. Latham advised Schoeller Arca Systems group in planning and implementing a precedent-setting balance sheet and corporate restructuring under Dutch and English law. In recognizing the team’s innovation, the Financial Times noted “a court-sanctioned private sale in the Netherlands for the first time, and liquidation valuation principles tested in the UK.” A cross-border team advised a consortium of senior lenders in connection with the restructuring of Honsel, which the Financial Times described as being “instrumental in pushing the German restructuring law closer to that found in the UK, enabling more flexible solutions to be developed.”

Latham’s finance practice in London won praise for its work advising banks on regulatory capital rules, with the Financial Times commending the team for “[helping] banks draft amendments to the Basel rules on capital requirements, and [advising] numerous banks on structuring transactions.”
