Among our major practice areas, the Washington, D.C. office features a premier mergers and acquisitions (public and private equity) and capital markets practice. Our "Wall Street in Washington" practice is unique among Washington law firms. We handle transactions involving billions of dollars across a broad range of industry sectors, every year. We practice in a broad range of complementary practice areas, including antitrust, tax, and employee benefits. Our Corporate Department also features a leading international outsourcing and technology transactions practice.
Our Washington, D.C. Litigation Department is the largest office Litigation Department in the firm. Our litigation practice is national in scope, and spans virtually every substantive practice area, including appellate (led by a former Solicitor General of the United States), securities and SEC enforcement, antitrust, product liability and mass torts, class actions, white collar and government investigations, export controls and economic sanctions, intellectual property and government contracts.
Our Environment, Land & Resources Department is a leader in environmental law in the United States. The Washington, D.C. office is a key center of this practice, possessing experience in all aspects of environmental law. The group handles all components of environmental law, with a particular emphasis on natural resource issues and the Clean Air Act. In addition to covering these two areas, our environmental lawyers handle administrative proceedings, water law, land use issues, litigation and enforcement in chemical regulation, toxic torts, pesticide regulation and Superfund programs.
Our Washington, D.C. office Project Development and Finance Practice is active in some of the largest infrastructure projects in the United States and around the world. Our lawyers apply their knowledge to both the development and financing stages of these projects and help to develop new regulatory structures in the United States and abroad. This extensive experience has helped Latham become internationally acclaimed in this area of the law. Our finance practice also includes our bank regulatory and real estate practices.

In Washington, D.C., we provide pro bono legal services to the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts, and the Whitman Walker Clinic, among hundreds of others. Associates in our office are encouraged to participate in the community and the firm is committed to supporting their efforts through sponsorships, administrative support, and manpower. Washington, D.C. associates have founded and sponsored a number of flourishing programs benefiting our community, including "Lawyers Pitch In," an annual law firm softball tournament and fundraiser for Legal Aid and "Buildable Hours" a national program that coordinates contributions and volunteer labor from law firms to help build houses for underserved working families through Habitat for Humanity.
