SH Outside v2

The Shanghai office of Latham & Watkins opened its doors in April 2005.  Working closely with our Asian offices located in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo, the Shanghai office represents US, European and Asian companies conducting business in China and throughout the Asia Pacific region, and Chinese companies in their international direct investment activities, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets transactions. Our team includes several attorneys who are fluent in both written and spoken Mandarin and who have received both US and PRC legal education and training.

Practice Areas

Attorneys in the Shanghai office handle a range of transactions including project development and financings, capital markets, mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, private equity and restructurings. Our Shanghai office offers clients the advantages of global breadth and familiarity working in the region, combined with US-trained attorneys whom have significant experience handling many of Asia's most challenging and high-profile transactions.

With more than a decade of experience representing clients in China, Latham has participated in an extensive range of transactions involving the PRC and the broader Asian region. As counsel to issuers or underwriters, our attorneys have been involved in many international equity, debt and equity-linked offerings by issuers in China and across Asia. We also represent some of the world's largest private equity funds and multinational corporations in their acquisitions or investments in the PRC and Asia. In addition, we regularly act as lead counsel for the sponsors or lenders on the region's landmark power, petrochemical, and oil and gas projects.
