Experience

Svetlana M. Berman is an associate in the San Francisco office of Latham & Watkins, where she is a member of the Litigation Department and the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group. Ms. Berman’s practice focuses on a wide range of intellectual property and technology matters, including trade secret misappropriation and patent infringement litigation. Ms. Berman also has successfully represented a number of Fortune 500 companies in a variety of complex business disputes, securities litigation, professional liability, unfair competition and consumer class actions. Ms. Berman’s litigation experience includes all aspects of motion practice before state and federal courts, taking and defending fact and expert depositions, as well as arbitration, trial and appellate practice.

Ms. Berman’s recent speaking engagements include a November 3, 2009 presentation at the UC Berkeley Center for Law & Technology entitled, “Patent Reform: If Congress and the PTO Can’t Do it, the Courts Will (Sort of).”

Ms. Berman graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Santa Barbara and received her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining Latham & Watkins in 2005, Ms. Berman served as a judicial extern in Silicon Valley for the Honorable Jeremy D. Fogel, United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of California.

Ms. Berman is qualified to practice before the California State Bar, the United States District Courts for the Central and Northern Districts of California and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ms. Berman is fluent in Russian.
