Tim Crudo recently rejoined Latham & Watkins as a partner in the Litigation Department of the San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices after serving for six years as an Assistant US Attorney with the US Department of Justice in the Northern District of California. His practice focuses on white collar and government investigations, securities fraud and corporate governance cases, and litigation in connection with corporate transactions such as mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Crudo first joined Latham in 1989 and became a partner in 1997. In 2003, Mr. Crudo joined the Justice Department from Latham and advanced to serve as Chief of the Securities Fraud Section of the US Attorney's Office in the Northern District of California. His experience in the US Attorney's Office included the investigation, prosecution, and trial of white collar and securities fraud crimes, including complex accounting fraud, insider trading, offering fraud, investment fraud, ponzi schemes, and bankruptcy fraud. While at the US Attorney's office, Mr. Crudo tried nine cases to verdict, including matters involving accounting fraud, market manipulation and bankruptcy fraud. He also argued several cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to joining the US Attorney's Office, Mr. Crudo's practice focused on securities litigation and corporate governance, including the representation of corporations, board committees, and individuals in securities fraud class actions, derivative suits, proxy contests, SEC prosecutions, and internal corporate investigations.
A San Francisco native, Mr. Crudo is actively involved in the Bay Area community. He is a member of the board of directors of the Okizu Foundation and is a past director of the American Cancer Society and the Harvard Club of San Francisco. His pro bono activities have included work with the AIDS Legal Referral Panel and the Bar Association of San Francisco's Volunteer Legal Services Panel, and he is a past recipient of the California Bar Association's Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services. Mr. Crudo is a 1984 cum laude graduate of Harvard College, and he received his JD degree in 1989 from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was Order of the Coif.
