Mark Nelson is the Managing PartnerĀ of the Singapore office of Latham & Watkins. Mr. Nelson advises multinational corporations, private equity investors and financial advisors on acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, joint ventures, private equity investments, privatizations and other projects in Indonesia. He also advises issuers, underwriters and other corporate and banking clients in connection with corporate finance transactions, project development, project finance and other commercial bank finance in Indonesia.
On non-Indonesian matters, Mr. Nelson represents buyers, sellers, targets and financial advisors in connection with acquisitions and divestitures throughout Asia.
Mr. Nelson's recent transactions include representation of:
- Emirates Telecommunications Corp (Etisalat), the Middle East's largest telecom services provider, in its purchase of a 45% stake in Indian operator Swan Telecom for US$900 million.
- Temasek Holdings Private Limited in the sale of Sorak Financial Holdings, a holding company controlling listed PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk, to Malayan Banking Berhad (MayBank) for approximately US$1.2 billion.
- Emirates Telecommunications Corp (Etisalat) on its US$438 million acquisition of a 16 percent share in PT Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk, Indonesia's third largest telecom operator.
- Ballarpur Industries Ltd, India's leading paper manufacturer, and JP Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Limited, in connection with their acquisition of a 97.78 percent stake in Sabah Forest Industries Sdn Bhd, Malaysia's largest integrated pulp and paper mill, from the Malaysian-based Lion Group. The value of the acquisition is approximately US$261 million.
- US private equity firm Indigo Partners in connection with its acquisition of a 49 percent stake in Mandala Airlines, the first foreign acquisition of an Indonesian airline.
- PT Astratel Nusantara and Citigroup Financial Products Inc. in their acquisition from French company SUEZ Environnement of a 49 percent stake in PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya, the Indonesian company that operates part of the privatized municipal water system in Jakarta.
Mr. Nelson lived and practiced in Indonesia for over eight years and reads and speaks Bahasa (Indonesian).
