Our Commitment to Sustainability

Our goal is to reduce Latham & Watkins' impact on the environment, conserve natural resources and energy, and operate in a sustainable and cost-effective manner.

Complimenting our global Climate Change law practice, Latham & Watkins has formally launched the multi-pronged SMART (Sustainable Measures and Recycling Tactics) initiative, which is charged with implementing the firm's global sustainability policy. We believe that everyone at Latham can play a daily role in reducing our impact on the environment, conserving natural resources and managing our firm in a sustainable manner. Each of us can have an immediate and positive impact on the environment and if we act together, the cumulative effect will be powerful.

Among the areas we focus upon include:

  • Reducing Latham's use of energy and natural resources around the globe;
  • Encouraging alternative methods of transportation;
  • Promoting the recycling of paper, glass, aluminum, plastic and other products;
  • Reducing the type and quantity of the waste we generate, and handling them in a responsible manner; and
  • Reusing and recycling equipment, furniture, and other durable materials .

The SMART initiative also includes an internal communications plan, educational programs, local SMART teams and periodic internal progress reports.
